What is around?
The Rose Garden Villa is located at Provarma - Apokoronas, which is in a walking distance from the village Stylos, a place with many interesting seesights, tavernas and cafe. Stylos is famous for its natural spring from where it is taken and bottled, the world gold awarded Samaria water. But also for the evergreen valley, which is crossed by a small beautifull river. A complete network of trails will drive you deep in the valley and to the nearby villages Neo Chorio, Armeni and Kalyves.
Near Stylos there are two byzantine churches to visit and a fossil of pygmy elephant. Or you can start a 3 hours walk into Diktamos Gorge.
After Stylos you can keep driving to the main road towards Megala Chorafia and Aptera, one of the most important ancient cities of Crete, with ruins from minoan times, but also from the byzantine and roman times. Not far away there are two castles. Aptera and Itzedin.On the way from Stylos to Aptera there are many minoan ruins to see, all marked with wellseeing signs. Do not miss the impressive minoan tomb in the middle of an olive grove. Driving further you reach the highway which will drive you in minutes to Chania.
But after Stylos you can also choose a different direction, turning to the right and driving through the valley to the nearest beaches, Kyani Akti, Kalyves, or Almyrida, another pictureque village by the sea, with shallow beach, only few km further.
Although our dwelling is so close to beach, it is also close to the mountain. Following upwards the winding road, in only 4 km you will reach Samonas. A village at an altitude of 400m, but with magnificient view to the entire district of Apokoronas and even further. Samonas has a tavern with real authentic cretan cuisine, a must to visit and taste. Here are also worth a visit the 3.000 years old monumental minoan olive trees, the small, but wonderful decorated cave and one of the oldest churches on Crete, date back to the 10th or 11th century, Agios Nikolaos of Kyriakoselia. Samonas Traditional Villas, our main property is built in a hill slope right after the first few houses of the village. It has such an orientation that offer the best view to the valley, mountain and the cretan sea. Driving higher you will approach Kambi (800m), the first village of Keramia area. From here you can either drive always higher to Volikas mountain refuge, or Psychro Pigadi, having a closer view of the wild and unspoiled side of Crete, or drive , following the main road through all Keramia villages and maybe through Therissos gorge, to Chania. Apokoronas is one of the most visited areas in all Crete, not only for its natural beauties, the historical and archaelogical sites, but also for the many small traditional village at the foot of the White Mountains and the unparalleled hospitality of its residents.
